Training: Week 8 Day 1

I can't believe it's only four short weeks until it will be time to test myself at the Trail Mix 50k.

I met two people who are going to run the relay option of the race this morning at the gym. It's good to know other people who will be doing the same race. One of them also gave me a couple hot tips on other good races in the area. I may have to look into some of the faster, shorter races to use as training tools for future races...

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, just yet.

I ran 6.1 miles this morning at LTF at about 8:30/min, on the treadmill cranked up to about 3-4%, wearing the Vibram Five Fingers Sprints.

I gotta say...I am loving the Five Fingers! They let you know when you're doing something right, and they let you know when you're doing something wrong...I also put them through the speed test, in the last mile easing my pace up from 8:30, to 7:00, then 6:30 and for a brief and taxing last quarter mile 6:00. They handled flawlessly...And they also work well with the Injinji socks. Way comfortable, and nary a blister. The first time I put on new running shoes I can count on blisters the first several times I wear them...I might even consider wearing these for the entire 50k.

It will be a speedwork day tomorrow. I have discovered a new recovery dish: Chocolate milk and Cheerios. It tastes just like cocoa puffs, except you get the oat bran fiber...and last night I made a rockin' hot pad thai with extra veggies and my super secret blend of Indian spices. It was good except I forgot I hated baby corn. Eww.

And HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!

Wow Keith, that was an awesome speedy run in those things!

One of my fave sweet snacks is a bowl of cheerios with a tablespoon or two of chocolate chips and some dry roasted almonds, with 1% milk. Satisfies my sweet tooth every time!

I agree with you that VFF are great. I have two pair (Classic and Sprint) they are great even on concrete asphalt. As part of my job I walk alot of miles per day in chemical resistant rubber boots. They are murder on the feet. I gain relief from this footware. Barefooting all the way.

Another baby corn hater here! :)

Also I just wanted to chime in and say thanks for all the detailed writeups on the vibram fivefingers.
